what is microblading?

Microblading is a form of permanent makeup also known as cosmetic tattooing. Microblading falls under the permanent makeup sphere as a type of PMU style. It is the art of creating small, hairlike strokes to fill in sparse or thinning eyebrows to simulate natural hair using a specific tattooing technique.

is it permanent?

Microblading is a form of tattooing which is by definition permanent. However, given the nature of the area and pigments used it is common for microblading to fade over time. Everyone's body is different and it is impossible to determine how much a person's cosmetic tattoo will fade over time. Color can fade due to a variety of different causes, including skin type, environmental factors, iron deficiencies, sun exposure, and lifestyle habits such as smoking. Therefore, it is recommended to come back for a color boost every 1-3 years to enhance your existing tattoo. *To get the best possible results possible, be sure to follow all pre and post care instructions carefully.

is it a tattoo?

Yes. Anytime a pigment is placed into the skin it is defined as a tattoo. However, there are differences between microblading and body art tattooing. Colors formulated for cosmetic tattooing, especially for eyebrows, are intended to be softer to mimic topical makeup and a natural result. Body art tattoos use carbon-based pigments due to their longevity and are not formulated for the complexity of facial skin and aging. Body art pigments tend to be bright and vivid which would not render a natural and muted tone necessary for microblading

does it hurt?

Topical anesthetics are used before and during procedures to increase comfort. Most clients are quite comfortable during the procedure, however pain tolerance varies from person to person.

am I a good candidate for microblading?

you cannot get microblading if you are any of the following:

  • pregnant or nursing

  • using accutane currently or within the past year

  • under 18 years old

  • have been tanning or sunburnt within the past 30 days

  • are prone to keloids

If you have extremely oily skin, microblading may NOT work well for you. The constant production of oil will cause the hairstrokes to heal with a diffused, softer look. Your end result will look more powdered than you would expect. Usually a shaded or "ombre" brow will be more suitable for oily skin types, which still yields beautiful results.

If you are a frequent smoker, your pigment will fade sooner.

If you are iron deficient or Anemic, your pigment will fade sooner and bleeding/bruising may occur during and after the procedure.

Unhealthy compromised skin due to health issues, medications and over use of (anti aging, acne skincare, etc.) are all factors in the outcome. To keep your hair strokes looking good, a refresher appointment is suggested every 1 to 3 years. Results vary with each client.

describing the process

A full consultation is carried out at the time of your appointment to understand your skin suitability and realistic expectations of microblading. All colors and shapes are customized to each person. We will discuss color, shape, and expectations. From there, we will apply a topical anesthetic cream to start your numbing process so you will be comfortable during the procedure. During this time we will go over aftercare and any questions you may have. I will also mix a customized color appropriate for your skin type and eyebrows. The color will always be approved by you before any markings are made. Once numbed, we will map out your brows to make sure this is YOUR desired shape. This part of the process can be a bit time consuming as I take my time ensuring proper shape and symmetry unique to your facial structure. Once we have decided on the correct shape we will start the procedure. Additional anesthetic will be continually applied throughout the process to increase comfort. The initial microblading session typically lasts about 2 hours. Touch up appointments generally take 1 to 1.5 hours.

what products do you use?

Only the highest quality, safest and most sanitary tools and products are used. Microblading tools used during services are all sterilized, one-time use and disposable. All pigments used are specifically formulated for permanent cosmetic tattooing and come from a state certified, regulated, and licensed cosmetic manufacturing lab. NO parabens, NO additives, NO chemicals, vegan friendly pigment line free of animal cruelty and animal testing. Certificates of testing are issued to the company which re-tests their pigments every 18 months ensuring quality and safety.

why do my brows seem so dark and thick after the procedure?

During the first and second day of the healing process the eyebrows are approximately 20 to 25% darker and bolder in width than they will be when healed. Your skin is red under the pigment which causes the color of the pigment to appear darker. There is some swelling, although difficult to see due to the thickness of the skin in the eyebrow area. This will subside. Exfoliation, which begins in a few days, will cause the excess pigment surrounding the eyebrow procedure to flake away and a more narrow appearance will result. New skin will heal over the pigmented area and result in a softer appearance of your eyebrows. Don’t be concerned that your eyebrows initially appear darker and heavier in size than you desire. This is all part of the process. Please read more about the healing process under the “pre/post care” tab of our website.
